Year 5G did a really simple experiment to show their knowledge of evaporation. We went outside to a sunny place and put handprints on the floor? Can you predict what will happen? What factors helped the evaporation process? We developed our scientific vocabulary and practised our fair testing…it wasn’t a fair test!
We also put handprints in a shady place. Can you predict what will happen? We watched our handprints evaporate but more slowly this time. What factors helped the evaporation process? This time, Mr Alexander and Mr Yury put their handprint on the floor, they were bigger, what will happen now?
We decided that:
We couldn’t control the heat of the sun, there was no wind that day to help with evaporation, the material of the path helped to soak up some water. We also could not control how shady the path was. Someone stepped on a handprint and some of the water was on the bottom of a shoe! This experiment helped to develop our scientific language and team working skills.
