As part of our Book Week celebrations, we were lucky enough to be visited by the children’s author Gareth Jones. Mr Gareth has written several books, including the Ninja Meerkat series of stories and he read sections from several of his stories to us and told us how he gets his inspiration from different sources. He also is an accomplished musician and writes songs about the books he has written and we got to hear many of these songs and join along in singing them with him.
After a whole-school session, Mr Gareth conducted year level workshops for the students, which proved to be highly enjoyable. It was a wonderful treat to have a published author come to talk with us and hopefully will prove to be an inspiration for our budding writers!

As a parent, you want your children to learn all that they can, to be curious about exploring the world, as well as learn how to read and write. Did you know that you can help your son or daughter academically by playing with them outside of school?

The University of Cambridge has over 100 libraries. The central library alone (the Cambridge University library, or the ‘UL’) has approximately 8 million volumes, and is able to request a free copy of every book published in the UK and Ireland.
One book in the CIS Festivalnaya library that I recommend is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
